Toquade 2019 is the 14th vintage of a single vineyard organic, dry-farmed in Yountville Napa Valley. The vineyard is located next to the Napa River, where the soil is nutrient rich, with a good water holding capacity making it an excellent terroir for Sauvignon Blanc.
The vintage 2019 started with a wet winter and spring which provided a good water supply for the beginning of the vines growing season. The last rain was recorded end of May, by then some vineyards were already blooming consequently they experienced a lost crop. However the growers who pruned their vineyard later, to limit frost control management, had delayed their vineyard bud break but also their bloom after the last rain and did not lose any of their crop. From May to veraison (end of July), powdery mildew was successfully controlled in the vineyard. The mildew was a high concern in the Napa Valley this year due to the late rain season. From end of July to harvest the weather was cooler than the previous vintage which helps to have a nice flavor development. No heat spike recorded. Our Sauvignon Blanc was hand harvested September 3.
After fermentation was complete the wine was aged on lees with weekly bâtonage to increase the roundness and texture for 7 months. The wine was bottled mid March 2020. The wine has a nice nose of guava, grape fruit. It presents with a crisp mouth feel at first, then develops a rich and flavorful mid palate with a long finish of tropical fruits notes. This wine can be enjoyed by itself or paired with dishes such as sushi or bruschetta. It also goes well with fish based recipes and Asian food.
