"We are already producing the 7th vintage of “Toquade! Every vintage has been grown on an organic, dry-farmed vineyard in Yountville which was planted in 1978. This vineyard is a perfect “terroir” for Sauvignon Blanc. The water holding capacity of the soil and the microclimate are optimal for growing grapes that best express Sauvignon Blanc’s distinctive flavors. Vintage 2012 occurred after two consecutive wet, cool vintages. The 2012 season started with a dryer than average winter when compared to the previous two years. The last notable rain occurred in April and no frost after bud break was recorded. The fruit set was excellent and consequently we had an abundant crop. This was quite welcome after the crop loss of the 2011 vintage. Some crop thinning was done around veraison to balance the crop load on select vines. The summer was warm but no heat spikes were recorded. We experienced cool mornings and evenings which allowed the fruits to mature properly. Due to the plentiful crop load, maturation was delayed but we finally began harvest on September 7th. This date was two weeks earlier than the beginning of the previous year's harvest. We painstakingly extract the flavor characteristic to Sauvignon Blanc by fermenting the juice and aging the wine “sur lie” in stainless steel barrels for seven months. We incorporate weekly stirring to develop the roundness of the palate and overall texture.“Toquade” was bottled mid May 2013. “Toquade” is a pure, unfined expression of Sauvignon Blanc fruit from a single vineyard in Napa Valley. “Toquade” has grapefruit and guava notes, as well as an initial crispness complemented by a creamy mid-pallet and long finish with exotic fruit. “Toquade” can be paired with many foods: everything from seafood, sushi, and bruschetta to various cheeses and South East Asian dishes such as curries."
